Our Commitment to Benedict’s Law (Allergy Safety)
We operates in compliance with Benedict’s Law (under the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026), which establishes strict statutory duties for allergy safety and emergency preparedness across schools in England.
To protect pupils at risk of anaphylaxis, we enforce a comprehensive, whole-school approach to safety:
- Staff Training: Every member of our school staff—including teachers, teaching assistants, office staff, lunchtime supervisors, and catering teams—undertakes annual allergy awareness and emergency response training.
- Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs): Every pupil with a clinically diagnosed or medically documented allergy will have a personalized, annually reviewed action plan shared securely with relevant staff.
- Emergency Medication: In addition to your child’s personally prescribed Adrenaline Auto-Injectors (AAIs), our school stocks fully in-date, spare emergency adrenaline pens on-site. These can be rapidly deployed by trained staff for any pupil or adult experiencing emergency symptoms of anaphylaxis.
- An "Allergy-Aware" Environment: In line with national Department for Education guidance, we operate a strict "Nut-Aware" environment. We proactively monitor packed lunches brought from home, classroom activities, and off-site school trips to strictly minimize the risk of accidental exposure to severe allergens.
Parent and Carer Responsibilities
While we maintain high safety measures on-site, we rely on the vital cooperation of parents and guardians:
- Provide Prescribed Medication: Parents must ensure the school is supplied with two in-date, prescribed Adrenaline Auto-Injectors (or other relevant allergy medication) if required. School emergency stock does not replace a child's personal prescription.
- Keep Records Updated: It is your responsibility to inform the school office immediately of any changes to your child's medical diagnosis, dietary boundaries, or contact details.
- Safe Packed Lunches: If your child brings a packed lunch, please ensure it contains no nuts or nut products (including peanut butter or chocolate-hazelnut spreads) to protect vulnerable peers in the dining hall.
